I think normally they actually open the Disneyland version just before the WDW version (like with the Toy Story ride) but they wanted to be sure it was up and running for star wars weekend.
They are special for the ABC movie in a theater that is used to display. This is also their guest question and answer session where you used to be. After entering the theater, under ABC referb know they've moved it away last year. We, however, went last year for the event did not stay around.
