Disney has announced that they will begin work on the massive Fantasyland remodel starting in Spring 2010, and that the project is expected to take four years to complete everything. No word on just how soon the first new sections or attractions may be ready to open however. Can't wait to see what this will do the feel of the park itself.

I am curious if they will open it all in one grand opening or stagger the development and open it in stages as sections are ready.

We have been discussing this in another thread, click here... But the project will open in stages:

The Orlando Sentinel has a big article about the announced expansions: http://www.orlandosentinel.com/travel/attractions/orl-bk-new-fantasyland-disney-world-magic-kingdom,0,7274675.story

From the sound of the article, looks like the majority of the "leaked" plans have been approved and are moving forward. The princess section and Ariel ride are to open in 2012, with Pixie Hollow and the Dumbo area to open in 2013...

Great news for MK and DHS... no love Epcot or DAK (at least not yet)...

4 Years...The original DL was build in 365 days (according to Disney, Wallt announced on July 15 that they shovelled the first pile of dirt this time next year it was openning) Now a section of a section takes 4 years.

I have to assume it is because the area around it has to remain open and they could work faster if they could shut down surrounding areas but it still seems like a long time to complete a portion of a renovation. Yes, construction is more complicated now, but they have better equipment too.

Ah well, just means more anticipation...
