Black Hole

I saw the film yesterday for the first time in 30 years.

I actually remembered a lot of it. The soundtrack has some nice bits in it. Still very visually effective, especially with a kind of future gothic feel (if that makes any sense). Amazing cast (I forgot about Anthony Perkins & Ernest Borgnine, and the robots are voice by Roddy McDowell & Slim Pickens). However, I am a little hesitant to call it a great film.

It seems more than a bit derivative of 2001, Forbidden Planet, 20k Leagues, & Star Wars. I even noticed a bit of Fantasia like visuals in the heaven / heck bit near the end. While it is clearly has a Captain Ahab-y narrative, Though ultimately, I'm not sure that that part of the plot is sufficient to carry it. Plus, the end seems a bit non-commital.

Any other opinions?

This was a good movie. But also haven't seen it in many, many years.
I might just have to watch it again.

I think it will be a first time for DD to see it.
She will most likely laugh at the speical effects.

Are they supposed to be remaking this one? I know TRON is scheduled for a remake.

They will be able to do some really cool stuff with the new speical effects
with a remake of Black Hole and Tron.

Look foward to seeing them both.

Wow a Black Hole remake wow and a Tron remake would be cool They could do some really cool things with the black hole and tron wow now that would be cool in 3d no less thbh was a very good movie but how do you top max schell as a bad guy? Guess James Earl as the voice of the mcp? no too Darth Vaderish and who as Dr. Reinhart? and do the y show the original mutiny on the Cygness, here's a thought when they WWOD(wonder world of Disney) was on during the 80's there was a program of space travellers of teens and that they sent into space which was cool make a movie about that they had a great base for it.
