|
|
There have a ton of rumors regarding Star Tours 2... I think there have even been some "heated" discussions regarding this attraction. But it looks like it might actually be happening and soon:
Quote: | 2009 - Star Tours 2 - Rumor - (4/25/0 Screamscape sources tell us that we should finally expect to see Star Tours shut down by the end of this year or in early 2009 in order to begin work on the massive overhaul it will receive for the Star Tours 2 concept rebirth. While this is said to be a complete overhaul that will keep the ride closed for months, the WDW version may actually reopen before the Disneyland version. Expectations are high right now as they are simply not just dropping in a new movie to the old ride, but this makeover is said to change everything.

I've seen some posts at other sites stating that it will be a next generation simulator and this is going to be a MAJOR overhaul. Apparently the delay was because of some issues between Disney and George Lucas. Those posts have said that Lucas wanted a major overhaul and Disney just wanted a few minor updates...
It was discussed earlier (when talking about the new Disney's Hollywood Studios) that agreements were reached with Lucas to actually expand his involvement in the parks. It is being said that his involvement will change that whole corner of DHS, including an updated SW2, updated Indy Stunt Show (featuring scenes from IJ4), rethemeing of the Backlot Burger Express (to showcase Lucasfilm props), and possibly something replaceing SoundsDangerously...
It is something I have named, LUCASLAND!
This is supposed to be one of the corner stones of Disney's response to Harry Potter over at Universal. Instead of one giant response, Disney is going to go with several, a large package... Including new Lucas stuff, increase in Pixar attractions (Midway Mania), possible Space Mountain redo, and the overall overhaul of DHS and DCA....
Now, I don't want the west coasters to feel like they are being left out... Any updates or changes to Star Tours here will also happen at Disneyland:
Quote: | Late 2009 or Early 2010 - Star Tours 2 - Rumor - (4/25/0 Screamscape sources tell us that we should finally expect to see Star Tours shut down by late 2008 or early 2009 in order to begin work on the massive overhaul it will receive for the Star Tours 2 concept rebirth. Apparently we shouldn’t expect to see it reopen for close to a year or more since this is said to be a complete overhaul and not just Disney dropping in a new ride-film.

They used to show a special about the movies in the ABC Theater... This is where they also used to have the guest Q&A sessions. Not sure where they moved it to last year, since the ABC Theater went under referb. We went last year, but didn't stay around for the events.
Not sure where it is all going to be this year... _________________ Up or Down North, South, East, or West An Adventurer's Life is Best! |

Hey, the west coasters already have the Celebration conventions... which is even bigger than SWW! The closest we have, besides SWW, is Dragon Con and SW is only a small portion of that...
I wish I could afford to fly out and attend Celebration... really I do...
Leave it to west coasters... already have something better and still want more

I was never crazy for thos ride simulators that came out in the 80's. To me Startours is just that. Boring to me really. I would love to see a BIG change. |

From what I just read over on the Orlando Sentinel, the upgrade is just going to be a new 3-D Movie and multiple destinations. Doesn't sound like the other stuff rumored will happen. I'm sure that with 3-D movie, it will include HD projectors, so at least we get a much better looking video! _________________ Up or Down North, South, East, or West An Adventurer's Life is Best! |

Hooray! I've been waiting for this day ever since Al Lutz mentioned the Star Tours II rumors back in 1998 (http://www.mouseplanet.com/al/docs/tom.htm). Amazing that it has taken so long to get this one off of the ground. I hope the Lucasfilm folks ease off of the CGI and try to incorporate as much model work as possible. |

Sooooo is there going to be a 'majority rules' destination like Horizons?
Can't wait for the refurb. I've enjoyed that attraction since day 1, and it is long overdue. The REAL question: Will Pee-Wee still provide a voice? |
