Adventurous Jungle Cruise

So, today, I'm listening to the Jungle Cruise and Thurl Ravenscroft says:

"Here you can see schweitzer falls, named after the world famous explorer, doctor albert schweitzer."

weird, i've been on that ride at WDW perhaps two dozen times, over the course of thirty some years and i've never heard it any OTHER way than "...named after doctor albert falls."

is this perhaps an older spiel? i know the recording predates WDW. (I'm guessing 1965 or so.)

I believe that was from a record of the Jungle Cruise, much like the Haunted Mansion record with Ron Howard (Mike and Karen). I think at one point they did play this instead of having the skippers do live narration. See http://mousepad.mouseplanet.com/archive/index.php/t-7742.html, as there is some discussion about that. Thus, if they did this when the JC first opened, it would've been 1955, at the latest. tE would know, I'm sure

Like WDWFan said, it was originally a serious ride, but once the special effects stopped being groundbreaking and became more comical, the ride changed into the bad pun set of jokes you hear today, modeling it after Bob Hope.

I think the spiel now is like a joke. We all now Dr. Albert Schweitzer, so I think its suppose to be like Dr. Albert..... Falls. (Laughs) I don't know! I just work here! (Well, not really)
