I'm not sure we ever asked this before, but what does everyone do for a job? Is your occupation what you always wanted to do?

Hey Hun, you should post your own answer when you post these... Smile

I'm a programmer by trade, but I've moved into design and technical leadership for the past few years.

Growing up, I had no idea what I wanted to be, but when I played my first video games back in the 70's, I wanted to be a game programmer/designer. At least I came close...

Well, my wife Kim and I own a Personal Chef Service. It's called Once Upon A Kitchen. It's based out of Gurnee Illinois, but we serve all of Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin. Kim is the Certified Chef. I handle the business side, as well as all the baking and grill work. We've only been at this a short time, but our business has really taken off in the last year. We do Catering, Cooking Class Parties, Individual and Family meals, as well as a regular Cooking Class the first Monday of every month in Libertyville.

...there....another shameless plug....
...altho I really don't feel any shame at all....
...is that bad?

At the moment I'm a consultant ( I know, I know...insert collective groan here)

I work in the health care industry - prior to consulting I was a hospital administrator. That was my dream job.

I'm a lead software engineer, specializing in C++ and Python. Since I missed out on my Dream Job: http://kcmwwodp.blogspot.com/2008/09/so-you-want-to-be-imagineer.html, I've stayed here in my hometown of Pittsburgh and worked for two local companies.

I'm a lead designer for software. Rather be a developer, but that is all outsourced. So now I manage a bunch of developers, asking them to do stuff I could have already completed faster, cheaper and more accurately.

I am a systems analyst/developer who was ruthlessly and callously transferred to a stupid administative position where all I can do is listen to users tell me how the software does not work, report to the developers how they screwed up, train others in doing what I want to do and spend my valuable weekends installing new releases of broken software.

Midrange systems...And I was the only person in my department that was not asked to join but was dragged kicking ans screaming.....

But no, I'm not bitter..... Crying or Very sad

Ellory, Once Upon a Kitchen is such a great name - I love it!!

I'm a writer. I pay the bills doing freelance writing - journalism, PR, marketing - and for the most part my work revolves around sports car racing and motorcycles. As for what I do that doesn't pay the bills: my first book is coming out soon, a collection of Georgia ghost stories called "Georgia Spirits and Specters." I'm currently working on another book, "Everyday Voodoo in the Home and Office." And no, I don't practice voodoo - my editor asked me to tackle this one. I hope to someday make a living as an author. We will see...

Raven, I need that book when it comes out. I love local ghost stories. There are a few of those books in this area that I have read, and know a few stories not published. I grew up reading Hans Holzer and Sybil Leek. They kept me awake many nights.
